Answers to your Questions.
W is a fresh and safe digital space for the latest news, exchange of opinions, and fun, inspiring content. A social media platform built in Europe for the world. We only allow humans. We believe trust should be earned and have designed our platform from the start with privacy and data protection in mind. We prioritise authenticity, safety, and free speech, in compliance with EU regulations.
- Only real humans can share content – every account is verified
- Privacy by design – your identity remains private if you wish so
- Decentralization – your content can interact across the open AT-Protocol
W Social AB is a limited company incorporated in Sweden. It is built by a pan-European team of experienced entrepreneurs and investors from the media, technology, and AI sectors. Our Advisory Board brings together global leaders, policymakers, experts, and entrepreneurs from across countries and the political spectrum.
Founding team:
W is built on the open AT-Protocol, a global standard for interoperable social networking. This allows your posts and content to work across apps, rather than being locked into a single platform.
The AT Protocol is an open, decentralised standard for social networking. It lets many different apps and services share one network, so people can follow, reply to and interact with each other wherever they signed up. Bluesky is one of the apps built on it. We're building W from Europe for the world, and we believe open networks and global connection are key. By building on the AT Protocol, W connects you from day one to more than 45 million users across the wider AT Protocol network. Your account, handle, followers and posts stay yours and can move with you to any other AT Protocol platform.
Anyone aged 18 or over can join. You need to verify your identity to start posting and commenting. Organisations and companies are also welcome with a dedicated organisational account.
We introduced the waitlist after our pre-launch event in January 2026 so that everyone interested could secure their spot and be among the first to try W. Since launching our beta on June 17, we've been rolling out access in phases — gradually inviting people from the waitlist and welcoming more new users every day. Once we fully launch, the waitlist will be gone and everyone will be able to join instantly.
We're inviting people from the waitlist in phases. If you've signed up, keep an eye on your inbox. We’re gradually expanding access as we scale.

W is built on the AT Protocol, an open-source framework for interoperable social media. This allows compatible applications and services to communicate across a shared network and gives users greater freedom to choose where and how they participate. Like other services built on the AT Protocol, W consists of several different components. Some are based on open-source software, some are developed specifically for W, and some are licensed from third-party technology providers. W itself is not currently a fully open-source application, and technology developed specifically for W will not automatically be published as open source. During W’s early development, the repositories we forked were publicly accessible and were later made private while we reviewed security, privacy, licensing, intellectual-property, documentation and commercial considerations. W will republish the forked repositories, with improvements, integrations, bug fixes and technical documentation when they have been properly reviewed and are ready for responsible release. W will comply fully with all applicable open-source licences. Our commitment is to support open standards, interoperability and meaningful user choice, contribute responsibly to the AT Protocol ecosystem, and continue building a secure, sustainable and distinctive service.
Yes. Your account, handle, followers and posts can move with you between W Social and any other AT Protocol platform. The migration is fully automated. Moving to W requires an invite code, which you can request directly in the migration tool. Moving from W is always open — no invite code needed. Once you’ve moved to W, you’ll need to verify your account. Keep your passport/national id handy. Move your account to W Social
W operates European owned infrastructure for key parts of its service, including Personal Data Server (PDS) infrastructure, moderation services and other platform components. W is also developing and operating its own AppView infrastructure. During the public beta, however, some user experiences and services may continue to rely on shared or third-party AT Protocol infrastructure, including components originally developed by Bluesky. We are continuing to strengthen W’s own infrastructure and will provide more technical information as the architecture develops. Specific hosting and data-processing arrangements are described in W’s privacy information and should be understood in relation to the particular service involved.
W and Bluesky are independent services built on the same open AT Protocol network. This creates opportunities for interoperability while allowing each service to develop its own features, policies, infrastructure and user experience. W is specifically focused on verified-human participation, reducing fake accounts and automated manipulation, European digital governance, and tools that help people understand what is happening beyond their existing social bubble. W is also developing its own product functionality, including discovery, trends, identity and trust features. Some of this technology is specific to W and will remain proprietary. Users who prefer another compatible AT Protocol service should remain free to choose it. We believe that open networks become stronger when users have meaningful alternatives rather than being locked into a single application.
An AppView is the service that builds what you see in the app, such as your feeds, profiles, replies and notifications. W lets you choose between two: the W AppView (verified users only) and the Bluesky AppView (all users). Think of the W AppView as a filter on what you see. Who can see you stays exactly the same: everyone else on the AT Protocol is still there, they just don’t appear in your view. You keep all your followers and the accounts you follow, and only verified users are shown when you view them. Everything you share remains visible to everyone, and all users can engage with it. You simply see what verified users did. Your posts, followers, the accounts you follow, blocks, lists and muted words belong to your account and stay the same whichever AppView you choose. Saved posts, drafts, muted accounts, muted threads and read notifications are stored by each AppView. They don’t carry over when you switch, but they are kept and come back when you switch back. You can change AppView at any time in Settings or from the switch next to your feed. Here’s what each one shows:
- W AppView (verified users only): shows posts and replies from users verified by W or by trusted verifiers on the AT Protocol (other organisations that verify people as human beings on social media). Verified users can be individuals or organisations.
- Bluesky AppView (all users): shows posts and replies from everyone on the open AT Protocol. Unverified accounts don’t show who or what is behind them.
Yes. We want to give you options, so you decide who can interact with your posts. You can keep them open to everyone, or limit replies to the people you choose, for example your followers, people you follow or people you mention. When you write a post, you’ll see “Everyone can interact” below it. This is the default. Tap it to open your post interaction settings. You can also switch off “Allow quoting this post” there if you don’t want others to quote your post. Tap Save to apply your settings. Under “Who can reply”, you can choose Everyone, Nobody, or one or more of these groups:
- Your followers
- People you follow
- People you mention
- Select from your lists: choose people from lists you’ve created.
If you see a post or an account that breaks our rules or shouldn’t be on W, you can report it in a few steps. Reporting a post and reporting an account work the same way:
- 1. Tap the three dots (…): at the bottom right of the post, or at the top right of the account’s profile.
- 2. Choose “Report post” or “Report account”.
- 3. Pick why it should be reviewed, then select the reason that fits best.
- 4. Choose the moderation service you want to send your report to: the W Social Moderation Service or the Bluesky Moderation Service.
- 5. Submit your report.
Sign in, go to Settings → Account and choose "Delete account", then follow the verification steps. If we receive a request to erase personal data, we notify every recipient to whom the data was disclosed through the AT Protocol, as required by the GDPR. The AT Protocol is used by various independent services, and each of them is responsible for complying with data protection laws, including the GDPR. These services are then legally responsible for complying with your request. Like other digital service providers, W isn’t responsible for removing data you’ve chosen to make public from the entire internet. You can find more about how we handle your data and your rights in our Privacy Notice.
W Identity is a service that checks you're a real person, run by W Identity AB — a separate company from W Social. It allows you to verify that you are a real person and create a verified digital identity that can be used with W Social. Identity verification and the digital identity created afterwards are two separate steps: • During verification, information from your identity document and other checks are used to confirm your identity. • Once verification is complete, a digital identity is created containing only a limited set of verified information. The sensitive document information used during verification is not stored as part of that digital identity.
During verification, you provide the information needed to confirm your identity, using an identity document and a selfie. Where supported, W Identity can read the identity document's chip using NFC and check that the document is genuine. The selfie is compared with the document photo to confirm that you're the person the document belongs to. Once verification is complete, W Identity creates a digital identity containing a much smaller set of information than what was used during the verification process. W Social receives only the information required for its service, and only with your approval. This currently includes a W Identity identifier, your document's country, and your year of birth. If you choose to use your legal name with W Social, your name can also be shared. W Social does not receive your passport image, selfie, phone number, full date of birth or the full passport data used during the verification process.
W Identity is designed to keep exposure and storage of sensitive identity information to a minimum. The passport data and selfie used during verification are only used to verify your identity. They're not stored as part of the digital identity created afterwards, and they're not shared with W Social. Once verification is complete, only a limited set of verified information is kept as part of your digital identity — such as your year of birth, passport country and whether you are over 18, as well as your legal name, if you choose to use it. If verification is completed automatically, the temporary verification information is deleted immediately afterwards. If verification needs manual review, that information may be kept for up to 14 days while the review is completed. Access during this process is limited to authorised reviewers at Neuro, W Identity's European identity technology partner, and is used only to complete your identity verification.
Your choice. You can post under any username, and using your real, legal name is optional. Your country and age range are publicly visible to give others some context about the person behind the keyboard and help build trust, while keeping your identity private.
We built W so that everyone who interacts on it is a verified human. Posting, commenting, messaging and interacting with other users all require identity verification. The verification badge next to your display name shows others that you’re a verified individual on W. You receive it automatically once your verification is complete, so there’s nothing else you need to do. The badge is specific to W and is also shown in the Bluesky AppView and other AT Protocol apps. People verified by trusted verifiers (other organisations that verify people as human beings on social media) carry those verifiers’ own badges.
